Confrontation of Modified Newtonian Dynamics Predictions with Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe First Year Data

چکیده
I present a model devoid of nonbaryonic cold dark matter (CDM) that provides an acceptable fit to theWilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data for the power spectrum of temperature fluctuations in the cosmic background radiation. An a priori prediction of such no-CDM models was a first-to-second peak amplitude ratio A1:2 2:4. WMAP measures A1:2 1⁄4 2:34 0:09. The baryon content is the dominant factor in fixing this ratio; noCDM models that are consistent with the WMAP data are also consistent with constraints on the baryon density from the primordial abundances of H, He, and Li. However, in order to match the modest width of the acoustic peaks observed by WMAP, a substantial neutrino mass is implied: m 1 eV. Even with such a heavy neutrino, structure is expected to form rapidly under the influence of modified Newtonian dynamics. Consequently, the epoch of reionization should occur earlier than is nominally expected in CDM. This prediction is realized in the polarization signal measured by WMAP. An outstanding test is in the amplitude of the third acoustic peak. Experiments that probe high l appear to favor a third peak that is larger than predicted by the no-CDM model. We demonstrate that combining cosmic microwave background anisotropy measurements from the 1st year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe observations with clustering data from the Sloan galaxy redshift survey yields an indication for primordial anisotropies in the cosmological neutrino background.

The statistical expectation values of the temperature fluctuations of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) are assumed to be preserved under rotations of the sky. We use the bipolar power s pectrum (BiPS) proposed in Hajian & Souradeep to investigate the statistical isotropy (SI) of the CMB anisotropy maps recently measured by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP). The method can iso...

We confront predictions of inflationary scenarios with the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data, in combination with complementary small-scale cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurements and large-scale structure data. The WMAP detection of a large-angle anticorrelation in the temperature-polarization cross-power spectrum is the signature of adiabatic superhorizon fluctuations at...

متن کاملThe Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe
The Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) has mapped the full sky in five frequency bands between 23 and 94 GHz. The primary goal of the mission is to produce high-fidelity, all-sky, polarization-sensitive maps that can be used to study the cosmic microwave background. Systematic errors in the maps are constrained to new levels: using all-sky data, aspects of the anisotropy may confidentl...
